The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award


The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award was launched in the United Kingdom in 1956, as a unique global platform through which young people can demonstrate practical life skills achievements. As of today, DOE has about eight million people who have participated in the program in over 140 countries. DOE is operated by Chrysalis Youth Foundation in Nigeria under the brand, ‘International Award for Young People Nigeria’.

In the past sixty years, millions of young people have participated and received Awards, with millions more benefiting from its impact in communities around the world. In 2013, more than one million young people around the world took part in the Award, in over 140 countries and territories. In brief, the International Award for Young People Nigeria is an integral part of the global Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award which will provide the young participants with a tried and tested framework for delivery of non-formal education and give them an internationally recognized accreditation of their experiences.

The Award is earned in three levels:

Bronze: for 14 years or older (after participating for at least six months).

Silver: for 15 years and older (after participating for at least twelve months).

Gold: for 16 years and older (after participating for at least eighteen months).
